Crock Pots And Crock Pot Recipes

Do you have someone in your household who loves to cook? If you do have an inspiring chef or chef-to-be, you might have noticed her using a piece of kitchen equipment that resembles a pot but with layers inside.

This equipment is called a Crock Pot. Generically, it is called a slow cooker, but this appliance, developed and trademarked by Rival Industries, has become a household name. Today, a crock pot refers to any slow cooker.

A crock pot is a slow cooker, a countertop electrical home appliance that is used to cook stews and other kinds of dishes at low cooking temperatures. As its generic name implies, cooking in a crack pot requires long cooking times, as much as several hours, in fact. The appliance could be turned on and left to run unattended, making it a convenient cooking method.

A crock pot, or slow cooker, should not be confused with a pressure cooker. The latter is hermetically sealed. In contrast to a slow cooker, a pressure cooker actually cooks food very quickly at temperatures above 212 degrees Fahrenheit. It uses steam at high pressure and temperature.

A crock pot is also safer to use. It cannot explode even without a safety valve since the pressure inside is at atmospheric level. Ovens, on the other hand, broil at six hundred degrees and bake at three hundred to five hundred degrees—too high for cooking food with high water content. Chances of burns are less since the cover of a crock pot prevents hot splashes from scalding your skin.

Basically, a crock pot is a set that consists of a glazed ceramic or porcelain pot with a metal lining inside. This serves as the cooking container and a heat reservoir. Between the outer ceramic shell and the metal lining is a thermostatically controlled elect
ric heating in which the temperature can be adjusted through a dial outside the pot. It also consists of a glass lid which enables someone to check the food without opening the pot.

There are crock pot recipes that could be prepared. In fact, these crock pot recipes require little preparation. All you really need is to put all the prepared ingredients in the pot and watch it cook.

Of course, we wish that life could be that simple. There are a few considerations to take when cooking crock pot recipes.

First, recipes that are supposed to be cooked through outer cooking methods must be modified for crock pots. For example, the water or any liquid in a recipe must be considerably decreased. That's because cooking at low temperatures does not require much liquid to allow for evaporation, unlike high-temperature cooking.

Also, you must be careful about timing. Slow, long cooking might produce gourmet disasters if you don't adjust the ingredients, temperature, or duration as indicated in the recipe. But there's no doubt about it: since the cooking retains more moisture, the final result is juicier and tastier.

Of course, there are recipes that are really intended for crock pot cooking. Crack pot recipes can be included in a small cookbook that is found along with the manual of a newly purchased crack pot. Such recipes are very simple, requiring fewer than five ingredients.

There are also cookbooks that feature recipes that require a crack pot. Be sure to check out cookbooks with recipes specifically designed for crack pot cooking; it's a treasure trove for crock pot recipes. Through these cookbooks, you can cook dishes that are so simple that even a five-year-old child can prepare. If you want a good culinary challenge, there are recipes that even gourmet chefs fear to tread.

Lastly, you can find great crock pot recipes in the internet.
