How to make home made ice cream

Who doesn't love home made ice cream? Well you will love it even more when you realize how easy it is to make! Weather you want to make it from scratch in a bag or you prefer to use an ice cream maker, there is no denying the great taste of real home made ice cream. You can even buy the ice cream makers relatively cheap. (Try looking on bizrate.com/ ice cream makers for prices and places to buy) You can also make your ice cream even cheaper if you use zip lock bags and ingredients you most likely already have around the house.

First I will give you a fun and easy make in a bag recipe. The plus to this recipe is there's vertualy no clean up. Now that's something anyone can appreciate! Now lets get started!

For this recipe you will need

two tablespoons sugar

one cup of half and half

one half of a teaspoon of vanilla extract

one half of a cup of salt (it is best if you use kosher or rock salt)

one pint size zip lock bag

one gallon size zip lock bag

and enough ice cubes to fill each bag half full.

Start by mixing sugar half and half and your vanilla extract in the pint size zip lock bag. Make sure you close it tightl
y. Next place the salt and the ice in the gallon size zip lock. Then place the pint size zip lock in the gallon zip lock and seal it tightly. Now shake the bag until the mixture has hardened. This usualy takes about eight minutes. Now take the smaller bag out of the gallon zip lock and add you favorite ingredients (crushed oreos, m&ms, nuts, etc) You can eat it now, right from the bag!

Here is a butter pecan recipe for those of you who choose to use the ice cream maker.

you will need

One half of a pint single/light cream

One half of a cup heavy double cream

Two ounces of brown sugar

One tablespoon butter

One fourth of a cups of pecan nuts

One half of a teaspoons vanilla extract

Begin by placing the single cream sugar and butter into a sauce pan and mix together over a medium low heat. Stir until your mixture just starts to boil. Then remove the pan from heat and let cool. When the mixture completely cools put it in the ice cream maker and stir in the vanilla extract and double cream. The ice cream maker will have it's own instructions. Freeze as it is recommended but remember to add your pecans before the ice cream completely hardens. Place scoops of this delicious treat in serving dishes and enjoy every last bite!
